Any idea who we talk to in order to extend the HCTC

Postby Dave » Sat Jan 12, 2019 8:38 pm

Anyone have a clue who we should talk to about extending the HCTC again? I am thinking Bernie Sanders might be a good start but really have no idea.

Trump might actually sign it because the original purpose was to help people whose jobs were eliminated because of NAFTA.

Having finally received my tax refund including the HCTC credit, I also am interested in this question.

With some searching, there appear to be 2 efforts to extend the HCTC:
HR 1939: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-con ... /1939/text
This bill would simply replace 1/1/2020 with 1/1/2025, thus extending the HCTC for 5 years.
Introduced in March 2019

HR 3301: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-con ... 30EBD54B83
This bill would extend the HCTC until 1/1/2021, a 1 year extension.

It looks like HR 3301 is out of committee, and the next step appears to be a vote in the House. It is a small
part of a larger Disaster and Tax Relief bill. The sponsor of HR 1939 is urging the 5 year extension, but that
bill has not advanced, as near as I can tell.

Anyway, 1 year is better than none. If you are motivated, I think it would be helpful to urge your representative to support both bills.
Many representatives have websites which can be used to voice your support. Try https://www.house.gov/representatives

Thanks!

I would encourage everyone on this forum to send a note to the representative urging them to support this bill, including members who are old enough for medicare.

This coverage is very important to those Avaya retirees who are not yet medicare eligible.

Thank you Mx Lundberg, for that info about the HCTC extensions bills. I've sent an email requesting my congressman to support both bills.

I urge everyone to write their Congressman regarding these two very important bills. Many of us are relying on the HCTC over the next few years. Thank you.
